Microbiology at University Health Network is a shared service with Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH) and operates under the name UHN/MSH Department of Microbiology. It is the largest and most influential hospital-based microbiology team in Canada, providing full microbiology testing services for 14 Ontario hospitals.

The lab offers a full range of high quality microbiology services from routine cultures and sensitivities to the molecular typing of organisms. New assays are continually being developed by medical and scientific staff in response to emerging clinical and research needs. Extensive consultative services are available in the areas of test selection and interpretation, laboratory accreditation and infection control.

  • HIV viral load -public health lab accredited site for viral load

Serology

  • Clostridium difficile toxin testing
  • Wide range of viral and non-viral serologies

Molecular Diagnostic Testing

  • Wide range of molecular testing for viral and bacterial agents

Mycology

  • Fungus detection
  • Cells/tissues/organ donor testing
