Patient Education Programs in PMH

The Patient Education & Survivorship Program at PMH is dedicated to educating and supporting patients, families, friends and caregivers as well as members of the community by provinding tools, information and learning opportunities in many different ways, to suit the needs of each person.

Education can:

. help patients and families to learn about cancer and how it affects the body
. help patients better understand their treatment options and make decisions about their illness.
. teach patients and families how to manage cancer and its side-effects while keeping the best quality of life possible

Services available are:
Patient & Family Library: find reliable, up-to-date and accurate information about cancer to help make educated health decisions, maintain healthy behaviours and better cope with a diagnosis of cancer and course of illness. Free pamphlets and a lending collection of books, DVD's newsletters and magazines are available. Use library computers to stay in touch and search for health information. For detailed information requests, a tailored information package can be prepared by the Patient Education Librarian.

Education Sessions: These classes are all available free of charge to patients, family members or anyone else affected by cancer.
Classes include: Cancer & Our Spirit, Cancer Related Fatigue, Chemo Questions?, Clinical Trials Introduction, Lymphedema Introduction, Managing Your Cancer Journey, Multiple Myeloma & Diet, Nutrition for Wellness After Treatment for Breast Cancer, Prostate Information Session, Radiation Therapy: Answering Your Questions and What to Eat When You Don’t Feel Like Eating

Patient Education Calendar: a monthly calendar to inform you of Patient Education events, including Education Sessions. The calendar is available online by clicking on the link, or for pick-up in the Library of Clinic Resource Centres.

Caring Voices: Join this online community for cancer survivors. Talk to other survivors or log-on to one of our scheduled events to chat with clinicians and community partners about issues such as: radiation therapy, coping with cancer, drug coverage, and many more topics!

Caring to the End: Refer to this website for all of your information needs about end-of-life issues. This site offers both practical support for services such as homecare and emotional support to help you cope with this difficult period.
