University Health Network Libraries provide a variety of document delivery, research, training, and photocopying services to meet the information needs of UHN staff, physicians and students.
Document delivery
This service is available to all UHN staff and students with a valid badge. Clients may request books and journals from the library at any division at no cost. Turnaround time is usually within two to three business days unless otherwise specified.
Items not available in the UHN libraries may be requested from other locations. For each item borrowed there is a flat fee, plus any additional costs charged by the lending library. Materials usually arrive within three to four business days. Requests can be submitted by filling out a request form, or by telephone (416) 340-4121. Please provide as much information as possible.
For non-University Health Network staff, document delivery is available through HealthSearch.
Literature searching
The library offers literature searches on all online databases. Printouts are ready for pick-up within 24 hours.
For non-UHN staff, literature searches on online medical databases are available through HealthSearch.
SDI searches
An SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information) is a saved computer search strategy which is executed against the latest database update. An SDI is an excellent way to monitor the newest development in a specific area of interest.
An SDI strategy is run against our in-house Medline (or other databases) on CD-ROM. Search results can be provided by e-mail or in print via hospital internal mail. We can also help set up PubMed SDI search.
For non-UHN staff, SDI strategies can be provided by HealthSearch through email.
Medline and/or other database training
Group and individual training sessions on bibliographic database searching are held in University Health Network libraries for UHN staff and students.
Please call (416) 340-3429 (TGH), (416) 603-5750 (TWH) or (416) 946-4482 (OCI/PMH) to reserve a time.
Photocopying facilities
Photocopiers and printers are available for use by clients at all sites. Copicards can be used for both at each site. UHN medical students and residents may be entitled to free copicards in predetermined denominations provided they are registered with Medical Education and hold a valid UHN badge. Copicards are available for purchase in various denominations. The photocopy/print charge is 10 cents per printed page.
